Artist's Description
This photograph was taken at the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge Center near Los Fresnos, Texas. Always a treat to watch the variety of birds eating and bathing. This Green Jay was posing for me while I watched.
A brilliant green, yellow, and blue jay of the tropics whose range barely stretches to southern Texas, the Green Jay is a noisy, colorful delight. The birds travel in conspicuous family flocks through brushlands and forests, seeking insects, small vertebrates, and fruit to eat. Like other jays and crows, this species is an incredibly versatile forager equally comfortable at picking, gleaning, pouncing, and even flycatching. During the breeding season, from April through June, these garrulous birds settle down and become a bit quieter.
Green Jays, like the more familiar Blue Jays, are excellent mimics. In Texas, they may imitate the call of various hawks to frighten away other bird species (such as Plain Chachalacas) from food they want to eat.

About Charlene Adler
Charlene Adler is a native of Wisconsin and lives in both Wisconsin and Texas. As a retired teacher, having taught for 25 years, Art has always been a way to express myself whether it be oil painting or photography. To be able to capture an eagle in flight, a flower just blooming or a hummingbird flying is a joy to my heart. All my work is my own. I enjoy showing my photographs as taken or enhancing some with digital art. I think this saying by Carl Sandburg applies to a photographer looking for the perfect shot. "I'm an Idealist. I don't know where I'm going but I'm on my way." http://charlene-adler.artistwebsites.com/

Wow! First time I have ever seen a green Jay and now I know just how beautiful they are. Hurrah for having your artwork chosen to be a featured piece on our homepage this week. You have many fine pieces in your portfolio of your works, and I am happy you chose this one to submit for possible featuring in our group on the homepage. It now has reached that goal of being featured in our group, a family of friends and fine artists of the Wisconsin Flowers and Scenery Group. Congratulations on this fine accomplishment
Charlene Adler replied:
Thank you for the feature Randy. I am honored to share this photograph. The Green Jays are plentiful in Texas and so fun to watch.
